Prose Judge for 2019:   Marcia Douglas 

Marcia Douglas was born in the U.K. and grew up in Jamaica. She is the author of the novels, The Marvellous Equations of the Dread: a Novel in Bass Riddim,Madam Fate and Notes from a Writer's Book of Cures and Spells as well as a collection of poetry, Electricity Comes to Cocoa Bottom.

Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies internationally, including Edexcel Anthology for English Language/London Examinations IGCSE, The Oxford Book of Caribbean Verse, The Forward Book of Poetry, Sisters of Caliban: Contemporary Women Poets of the Caribbean, Cultural Activism: Poetic Voices, Political Voices, Kingston Noir, Jubilation! Poems Celebrating 50 Years of Jamaican Independence, Mojo: Conjure Stories, Whispers from Under the Cotton Tree Root: Caribbean Fabulist Fiction, Caribbean Erotic: Poetry, Prose, Essays, The Art of Friction: Where (Non) Fictions Come Together, and Home: An Imagined Landscape.

Her awards include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and a U.K. Poetry Book Society Recommendation. The Marvellous Equations of the Dread was longlisted for the 2016 Republic of Consciousness Prize and the 2017 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature. In addition to writing, she performs a one-woman show, Natural Herstory, and teaches at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Poetry Judge for 2019:   Julie Carr 

Julie Carr is the author of 10 books of poetry and prose, including Real Life: An Installation (Omindawn 2018), Objects from a Borrowed Confession (Ahsahta, 2017), and Someone Shot my Book (University of Michigan Press, 2018). Earlier books include 100 Notes on Violence (Ahsahta, 2010), RAG (Omnidawn, 2014), and Think Tank (Solid Objects, 2015).  With Jeffrey Robinson she is the co-editor of Active Romanticism (University of Alabama Press, 2015). Her co-translation of Leslie Kaplan’s Excess-The Factory was published by Commune Editions in 2018. Carr was a 2011-12 NEA fellow and is a Professor at the University of Colorado in Boulder in the English department and the Intermedia Arts Writing and Performance Ph.D. She has collaborated with dance artists K.J. Holmes and Gesel Mason. There are no page limits. No close friends or former students of our judges may submit. All submissions will be judged anonymously. Close friends, relatives, and former students of University of Colorado-Boulder creative writing faculty are not eligible. Employees or graduates of the University of Colorado-Boulder are also ineligible. Simultaneous submissions are fine but please notify Subito immediately if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere.
